2017 Cortina Nationals
|
Words by Maxine:
On the weekend of June, 9th 10th 11th, Merv, Jenny, Peter and i headed off to the 2017 Cortina Nationals held in Albury. Merv and Jenny started their weekend off early, and we met up with them in Bendigo. Proud as punch was Merv sitting up in his SXY682, and so he ought to have been. A great achievement to get a crappy $900 Cortina done up to the standard he did. This years Nationals was the 50th celebration of the MK2 release onto the Australian market. There was plenty there celebrating too. What a sight when we drove down to the Hume Resort to register. Cortinas everywhere. There were roughly 240. 220 were listed as registered, but more showed up on the first day. The organizers did a great job, and based the weekend pretty much as they had done on their first Nationals in 2012, as that had been a great success. Two cruises were organized, after an assembly meeting at the showgrounds, to steer us in the right direction. We cruised to beautiful Beechworth, with a few scenic stops along the way. Was a great drive, and everyone was happy, and proud. had a great parking area at Beechworth, and spent quite some time there, having a good look around, with the weather being kind to us. There was a dinner held on the Saturday night, but we all opted to stay at the caravan park, as we’d stuffed ourselves at the Beechworth Bakery at lunch time. Sunday morning it was a nice early start to Kinross Woolshed Hotel to park up, get out the polishing cloths, and Show & Shine the little beauties. There was a lot of little beauties there. Tassie did very well in the trophy winning. My all time favourite, red MK2 with gold stripe took a trophy home, and the immaculate red replica MK1 Lotus also proudly took home a trophy. |
